2007 Blue-Gold FootballWhat Is Blue-Gold
All About
?

This annual football game is the event that launched DFRC more than fifty years ago. It showcases Delaware’s finest high school students who participate as football players, cheerleaders, band members and school ambassadors.

Each senior participant is given the opportunity to take part in DFRC’s Hand-In-Hand Program. Since its start in 1974, this unique program pairs the senior participants with a "Buddy," a person 4-18 years old with a intellectual disability. The buddies build friendships and learn valuable lessons about diversity and acceptance. The Hand-In-Hand Program is the heart of the Blue-Gold experience. Photo credit: E. John Williams for DFRC

The Buddy Bowling is the second statewide event in this year's Blue-Gold All*Star Game Hand-In-Hand program. A total of nine bowling centers across the state hosted the Buddies and Senior Participants in 2008.

The high school students, primarily seniors who will be graduating in June 2008, are participants in DFRC's Blue-Gold All*Star Football Game program as Blue-Gold Ambassadors, Band Members, Cheerleaders and Football Players and may elect to have a Buddy as a means to promote understanding, awareness and acceptance. 2008 Hand-In-Hand Buddy Party a smashing success!

2008 Hand In Hand Collage

Blue-Gold Buddies and High School participants numbering the hundreds gathered in Dover on Sunday, March 9th for the Annual DFRC Blue-Gold Hand-In-Hand Buddy Party.

DJ "Shubie" spun his musical magic for the Buddies and their new friends from high schools across the state. The only rivalries here were seeing who had the best moves on the dance floor and who would be next to get their picture with DFRC's mascot, Buddy Bear.

Click here to view more 2008 Hand-In-Hand Party pictures - a big thanks to photographers John Williams and Randy Seale - and to the parents and Blue-Gold volunteers who also shared their pictures. If you have Blue-Gold event pictures you would like to share - call the DFRC office at (302) 454-2730 or send them by email to info@dfrcfoundation.org
